ABSTRACT |
Sudden sensorineural hearing loss is not rare. It may be defined as a suddenly developed hearing loss with or without tinnitus and vertigo in one or both ears. Its etiology and pathophysiology is not verified yet. Therefore no specific treatment method is available at present. We studied 103 ears of the patients with sudden hearing loss who were admitted to Wallace Memorial Baptist Hospital from March, 1986 to March, 1993. We selected and grouped the patients with similar prognostic factors, there after the effects of combination therapy of low molecular weight dextran, histamine & steroid for sudden sensorineural hearing loss were compaired to other regimen or spontaneous recovery by retrospective study. The purpose of our study was to obtain the clinical effect of the combination therapy and generally accepted prognostic factors of disease itself(eg. degree of hearing loss, accompanying symptoms, audiometry pattern, previous URI history, etc.) in each group of patients with similar prognostic factors.
