ABSTRACT |
Tonsillar tuberculosis is very rare and almost always secondary to pulmonary tuberculosis. Authors have experienced a case of right-sided unilateral primary tonsillar tuberculosis. She complained of lumpy sensation in the throat and progressive swallowing difficulty. On physical examination, right tonsil was markedly enlarged, smooth surfaced and crypts-less without ulcerations and patches, while left tonsil appeared within normalcy. Chest X-ray was unremarkable and E.S.R. 22 mm/hr. Histopathologic finding of the right tonsil was consistent with tuberculosis while left tonsil revealed chronic inflammation. She was free of symptom immediately after surgical treatment and antituberculosis medications were given 9 months postoperatively.
