ABSTRACT

Laryngeal tuberculosis associated with active pulmonary tuberculosis was a common disease in the past, but it has become rare with the advent of anti-tuberculous chemotherapy. Moreover, primary tuberculosis of the larynx is now extremely rare. Authors recently experienced a case of so called primary tuberculosis of the larynx. The patient was 26 years old woman with the complaints of progressive weakness, hoarseness, odynophagia, and cough with expectoration for two months. Histopathologically, it was confirmed as tuberculosis of the larynx, however chest X-ray revealed negative and tubercle bacilli could not be identified in sputum by smear and culture. She was treated sucessfully with anti-tuberculous chemotherapy.
