A Clinicohistopathological Study for Chronic Tonsillitis

ABSTRACT

Authors had studied on clinicohistopathological aspects for 101 patients who admitted for tonsillectomy to the department of otolaryngology of SRCH from Jan. 1980 to Sept. 1981. The results were as follows : 1) There were 60 males and 41 females, and 64% of the cases were in the range of 6 and 15 years of age. 2) Hematological findings : a) In WBC count, 80% of the cases were in the range of 5,000 and 8,900/mm3. b) In hemoglobin, 87% of the cases were in the range of 12 and 14.9gm/100ml. Especially in males, there were more concentrated cases in the range of 12 and 13.9gm/100ml, and females in the range of 12 and 12.9gm/100ml. c) Hematocrit were more concentrated in the range of 40 and 40.9% in both sexes. And 41% of the cases were in the range of 40 and 41.9% of hematocrit. d) In plateletes count, 96% of cases were in the range of 150,000 and 349,000/mm3. e) In bleeding time, 75% of cases were in the range of 41 and 80 seconds. f) In coagulation time, 70% of the cases were in the range of 8 and 12 1/2 minutes. 3) Histopathological findings : a) Hypertrophy or hyperplasia of lymphoid follicles were noted in 98% of the cases. b) Fibrosis was noted in 73% of the cases in the subepithelial area. c) Infiltration of the inflammatory cells were noted in all cases.
