ABSTRACT

The author has investigated the selection of words as a preliminary study in making a standard of speech hearing test with Korean language, they were selected from test books of Korean language for elementary school and recent books of theaticals. The study carried out were the differences of speech articulation scores between in each syllables, frequency in daily conversation and recorded second pressure. The object of test was 17~20 high school students with normal hearing who live in Busan city. The results obtained were as follows : 1) The words with higher frequency in daily conversation showed better speech articulation scores, while poor articulation scores with frequency lowering. 2) Speech articulation score was better in 4 syllabic words and declined with syllable decrease and most poor in nonsense speech sound. Bisyllabic words are advisable for material of speech hearing test. 3) The bisyllabic words had no significant relationship between sound pressure and confusion of the words, but monosyllabic were heard better with increase of sound pressured. 4) The monosyllabic word had no relationship between articulation scores and number of testing words, but bisyllabic words showed different score with number of testing words. The 50 words list was suitable for speech hearing test. 5) It is recommendable that descending method is suitable for speech hearing test.
