ABSTRACT

The tumors originating from the ear are rare compared to those of other parts of the body. Recently the authors were experienced a case of malignant melanoma in the external auditory canal. A 30 years old woman had been a small finger tip sized dark brown mass on the superoposterior portion of the left external auditory canal. Under local anesthesia the tumor (1.4×1.2×1.0 cm in size) was removed completely through the endaural approach and pathological examination comfirmed as malignant melanoma. The prognosis of the malignant melanoma is serious but the course of the disease is not always hopeless. In this case, for nearly one year of observation there has been no recurrence or other problems after total excision of the tumor.
