Clinical Observation of Foreign Bodies in the External Auditory Canal

ABSTRACT

The author studied 84 cases of foreign bodies of external auditory canal seen at the E.N.T. clinic of this medical college hospital during the past 10 years, since Jan. 1955 to Dec. 1964, and following results were obtained. 1) Age and occurrence : 1~5 yrs-14 cases, 6~10 yrs-8 cases, 11~20 yrs-30cases, 21~30 yrs-10cases, 41~50 yrs-8cases, 51~60 yrs-no occurrence, 61~70 yrs-2cases. 2) Sex distribution : male 48 cases, female 36 cases. 3) Side : Rt.-36 cases, Lt.-46 cases, Bilateral-2 cases. 4) Kinds of F.B. : animate : 34 cases, inanimate : 50 cases. 5) Complications due to F.B. : Otofuruncle or eczema of the ear : 4 cases, laceration of the external canal and trauma on the drum : 2 cases, chronic otitis media : 10 cases, acute otitis media : 6 cases, polyps : 2 cases.
