ABSTRACT |
Recently the statistics regarding cancer of the larynx were reported by many
authors. But the clinical statistics on the title were poorly reported
up-to-date in Korea. The author had observed and figured out their clinical
statistics of 67 cases of cancer of the larynx. They were all cases which
verified histopathologically during five year period (Oct. 1960-Sept. 1965) at
Dept. of Otolaryngology, S.N.U.H. The following results were obtained. 1) In
this study, there were 57 male (85%) and 10 females (15%), about 6 times more
frequent in man than woman. 2) Age distribution showed a predilection for fifth
and sixth decades (over 70%). The average cancer age was 56.4 in year. 3) The
histopathological classification of the laryngeal cancer was as follows ;
Squamous cell carcinoma 63 cases (92.5%), Epidermoid carcinoma 3 cases (4.5%),
Probably Squamous cell carcinoma 1 case (1.5%), Basal cell carcinoma 1 case
(1.5%). 4) Most of the cases (62.6%) had visited the Dept. of Otolaryngology,
S.N.U.H. within 6 months after onset. 5) The distribution according to the
location of tumors was as follows ; Supraglottic carcinoma 52.2% (35 cases),
Glottic carcinoma 32.8% (22 cases), Laryngopharyngeal carcinoma 4.5% (3 cases),
Subglottic carcinoma 3.0% (2 cases), Undetermined 7.3% (5 cases). 6) The
distribution of cancer of the larynx according to relationship between the
stages and locations was as shown (table 15). 7) The metastases to the deep
lateral cervical nodes were arisen chiefly from the laryngopharyngeal and
supraglottic lesions (70%). 8) The metastaes to the deep anterior cervical
nodes were arisen chiefly from the glottic and subglottic lesions (80%). 9) The
metastases to the submaxillary nodes were arisen chiefly from the
laryngopharyngeal and supraglottic lesions (75%).
